Bush, senators renew fight against gay marriage

I don't even know where to start. This makes me furious.

"Ages of experience have taught us that the commitment of a husband and wife to love and to serve one another promotes the welfare of children and the stability of society," Bush said in his Saturday radio address. "Government, by recognizing and protecting marriage, serves the interests of all."

"In our free society, people have the right to choose how they live their lives," Bush said. "And in a free society, decisions about such a fundamental social institution as marriage should be made by the people, not by the courts.")

Pedophiles to launch political party

Pedophilia is very tricky, in part because age of consent laws are really very... arbitrary. It's hard to say at what age anyone can make an informed decision about themselves, especially sexually. I know people who are eighteen, nineteen, twenty... and aren't really acting any differently than they did when they were younger.

I've been thinking a lot about the government's role in its citizens private lives. On one hand I'd like to tell them to mind their own business, since at least in the case of the United States it leads to ridiculous laws banning the sale of sex toys or worse. But it's difficult to say, especially in cases like these.

Children in general are problematic because everybody feels that they have a right to be the voice of children. And I don't just mean in pedophilia, I mean for many other things - it's similar to pro-lifers assuming the voice of unborn fetuses. Sometimes this is okay, and sometimes it's necessary. But it can be dangerous because people will use children as a means by which to push forward their own political agenda rather than have any actual concern. Historically this has happened many times, most importantly with civil rights.

I'd like to see the day when politicians were honest, straightforward people. Elections wouldn't be about how many millions of dollars you can blow on campaigns or how to best curry favor with people you don't actually give a shit about. I'd like to see the day when I really felt that my vote was counting towards something. I'd like to see the day when a politician that I truly loved ran for the presidential election so I could stop settling for the lesser of two evils.

Sadly, that day will never come. Certainly not in my lifetime. Politics has and always will be dirty. Nobody fights fair.

Indonesia quake toll passes 3,000

What! Last night, when I went to sleep, the death toll was at like 200. This is crazy! Poor Indonesia, they don't get any break.

Polish ice cream ban for papal visit

In fact, television advertisements for alcohol have also been banned, along with those for contraceptives, lingerie and tampons.

I find that horrifying! I'm sorry, Roman Catholics (although I doubt there are any very serious Roman Catholics reading this) - but I think your religion at this extreme is absolutely absurd.

Speaking of absurd religious groups... I think this one might win. This is the same crazy woman whose interview I posted a month ago or something.

It is an interesting question, though - they have freedom of speech, yes, but I find it horrifying that anyone would feel right showing up at a funeral to protest and make a religious or political statement.
